Oil Spill Brings More Tourists To Myrtle Beach

Tourist are canceling reservations last minute and booking up what few hotels are still vacant in Myrtle Beach. Due to the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Myrtle Beach businesses have noticed an increase in sales. Ron Simantov, owner of USA Beachwear stated, “We have regular customers that come here every year, but we are running into some people that this is their first time in Myrtle Beach!” “We decided to come to Myrtle Beach where the water’s a little cleaner,” said some recent visitors at Crazy Horse Marina. Analysts figure that the oil spill will only account for about ½ a percentage decrease in the economy for this quarter of the year. Tourists are not canceling vacations all together; they are just taking them elsewhere, such as here at the Grand Strand.
